Funding & Scholarships

Program costs vary depending on the program. Whenever possible we send in-state students on exchange. This means they pay their tuition and fees to OSU while they attend a partner university abroad. For out-of-state students this tuition status varies. We work individually with these students to decide if it is best for them to pay international tuition at the host university or out-of-state tuition to OSU. In either case, the student is responsible for living and travel expenses. Total cost estimates are available for each program upon request. If we do not currently have an exchange agreement with the university the student wishes to attend then the student is sent on a co-sponsored program. Frequent providers are CIEE, API, and IFSA Butler. The provider sets the price which generally includes tuition, orientation, arranging housing, and transcripts. Some programs also include housing, excursions, text books, and local transportation. It is important to be aware of the type of program you are participating in and what is included in your program fees.

It is also important to budget for traveling and going out. When you are abroad you do want to do more than go to class and sit in your room, right? As soon as you know you are going start saving money for the fun stuff. Asking family for money to go towards your time abroad instead of presents for your birthday and during the holidays is a great way to start. Picking up an extra job during the summer or during breaks is also a good idea. Just remember, once you are abroad, plan and budget carefully. Not having any money left because you blew it all in the first month is no fun at all.

The good news is there are scholarships available! Many students have used scholarships to help fund their experience abroad. There are scholarships available for both Study Abroad and International Internships.
