To enable researchers and students anywhere in the world to "experience" the new Tsunami Wave Basin, Ron Metoyer is developing a virtual version of the entire O. H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory. Tapping his expertise in 3-D virtual environments, which helped him win almost $500,000 in the form of an NSF CAREER Award earlier this year, Metoyer is using spatial information to create a 3-D informational tool for touring the lab and designing experiments for the facility.
"We want people to feel like they’re inside the wave lab, not just clicking down a list of features or viewing web cams," Metoyer says. |
