e-TSUNAMI WAVE LAB COMES ONLINE, GENERATES FIRST BIG WAVES
At a grand opening ceremony the world's largest and most-wired tsunami
wave basin generated its first official tsunami wave on September 13th,
splashing several of the more than 400 spectators as the wave ran up a
gravel beach and crashed over the concrete wall of the tank. The
ceremony featured remarks by William Wulf, president of the
National Academy of Engineering, John Brighton of the National
Science Foundation, Eddie Bernard, of the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration, OSU president Ed Ray, and others.
Because the facility employs cutting-edge information technology, it has been
referred to as an e-tsunami wave basin. Researchers worldwide will be able to
participate remotely in experiments happening at the Oregon State
University facility in Corvallis. |
