They have heard our ideas, and repeatedly asked for more details, which we have provided. This culminated in the new five degree category 1 proposal for PhD and MS degrees in Water Resources Engineering, Science and Policy and Management which you should have all seen.</SPAN></FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"></SPAN></FONT> </P> <P class=MsoNormal><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">As part of the 2007 transformation of the university, the provost has set aside $2,000,000 for new signature themes of excellence to be spent this year. Today we went to Dr White to float the attached idea – that we need to invest in new faculty in this area. We initially decided to go for 4 fully funded faculty lines, with start up. Dr White stated that this was exactly the type of effort that the strategic funds were seeking to facilitate, and further went on to committed half of the funds from his office to cover the start up of the new category 1 programs (the rest to be matched by the deans, which is a done deal – we have talked to them). This is a hugely important vote of confidence in our efforts.
