May 9 OSU Engineering Expo Stars Student Innovators
|
On Friday, May 9th, the 9th Annual Engineering Expo takes over at the Kelley Engineering Center on the Oregon State campus. As always, this year’s event promises to be another spectacular showcase of innovative creations.
Inside and outside, the Kelley Center will be abuzz with student ingenuity. We’ll be featuring inventions developed by OSU engineering students for their senior design projects in the following majors:
- Civil and Construction Engineering
- Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering
- Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
- Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering
- Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics
And you definitely won’t want to miss the Robo*Palooza, which includes a variety of robot activities with a TekBot® Triathlon, a “best dressed” contest, maze race, and freestyle events. A contingent of FIRST robots built by local high school students will also be moving about.
As always, this year’s Formula and Mini Baja race cars built by OSU students for international competitions will be on display, along with a human-powered kinetic sculpture racing vehicle, a SWAT reconnaissance vehicle, a GPS robot, an electric motorcycle, and other wheeled contraptions.
This year, we’ll also have a Sustainability Showcase! This section of Engineering Expo features green engineering projects: renewable energy solutions such as wave power and biofuels; earth-friendly agricultural devices; and more.
This free event is open to the public and runs from noon to 5 p.m. on May 9th. We think it’s a fun learning opportunity for high school students who are considering a career in engineering or are just interested in science and technology. If you and your students plan to join us as a group, please call Renie Ashbaugh at 541-737-3101 to reserve a time and tour guide.
We’d be glad to answer any other questions you might have about the Engineering Expo—just drop us an email or give us a call.
