Outlook Express
Follow these steps to set up Outlook Express:
- Open Outlook Express
- If the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW) prompts you for your name, enter your name, click next and move to step 3.
(figure 1)
If Outlook Express has been previously opened you may need to start the ICW manually. To do this from the menu bar select Tools=>Accounts=>Add=>Mail (see figure 2) This will start the ICW as seen above. Enter your name and click next.
(figure 2)
- Check "I already have an address I wish to use" and enter your ENGR mail address.
(figure 3)
- The email server names window is next. Select IMAP as your incoming mail server type, and mail.engr.oregonstate.edu as your incoming and outgoing mail servers if you are connecting from on campus or through the OSU modem pool.
(figure 4)
- Enter your ENGR login name and password. Select "remember password" to have Outlook Express not query you for your password each time you open it.
- Click Finish. But wait! One more little item.
Your accounts window should still be open (see figure 5) Highlight mail.engr.oregonstate.edu and select "Properties" and then the IMAP tab (see figure 6)
(figure 5)
(figure 6)
Enter in the root folder path of ~/mail and have sent mail and drafts stored on the server as shown in Fig6
- In the main windows of Outlook Express go to, Tools-->Accounts-->Mail-->(Your Account, in this case: engr.orst.edu)-->Properties-->Advanced. THen check the box underneath the "Incoming mail(IMAP):" line of text. This should change the Incoming mail(IMAP) box to 993 and let you use a secure connection to send mail.
(figure 7)
- Thats It! You also have the option of using the OSU directory service. Click HERE for instructions on how to set that up.
Please Note If you are connecting to your Engineering account from outsides the school's network you must use their outgoing (smtp) server, mail.proaxis.com for example. In all cases mail.engr.oregonstate.edu will be the incoming server. All the other steps for setting up Outlook Express will be the same. Another option is to set up SMTP authorization.
