Outlook 2003 for IMAP

Follow these step to set up Outlook for your computer in your dorm, house, apartment, or office. If you are wanting to set up the OSU Directory in Outlook 2003 then go here.

Note: Symantec Antivirus has known issues when using SSL with sending mail. If you are experiencing troubles sending your email after following these directions, click here.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook 2003, then open tools and go to Email Settings.

  2. In the wizard that opens select "Add a new e-mail account" and click on the Next Button.

  3. On the next page, the wizard asks for a server type, select "IMAP" and click the Next Button.

  4. On the next page you will see many fields, under "Your Name" you can put your first & last name.
In the "E-mail Address" field put your email address. Note: Faculty may wish to put their first.last@oregonstate.edu address here.

For incoming and outgoing mail server enter "engr.orst.edu". Enter your Engineering Logon & Password and check "remember password." Next, click on more settings to open the dialog.

  5. You can leave the account name as default. Then you need to click on the "Outgoing Server" tab.

  6. You need to check "My outgoing Server..." and make sure it uses the same settings as your
incoming mail server. This is not necessary for campus users, but is a good idea. Then you need to click on the "Advanced" tab.

  7. On the advance tab, change your server port numbers. Enable SSL and make sure it says 993 next to
incoming server (that's a port number). Enable SSL on the outgoing server. The port number here can be
25 or 465. Under "Root folder path" enter in "~/mail" (no quotes). Click OK.

  8. Click Next & then Finish and you should be ready to go! If you use Symantec Antivirus
and are experiencing troubles sending your email click here.
