More than 25,000 new engineers have graduated from Oregon State University. Our alumni have gone on to make a vast range of contributions to the world---from teaching, inventing, and working for large and small organizations and companies, to founding their own firms.
Linus Pauling is the only person to win two unshared Nobel Prizes. Jen-Hsun
Huang founded nVIDIA Corporation, the world's largest maker of
graphics processing units. Donald
Pettit and William
Oefelein are both NASA astronauts. Douglas
Engelbart's visionary thinking lead to development of the computer
mouse, e-mail, hypertext, and video conferencing. Debra Walt Johnson is the College of Engineering's first Rhodes Scholar and has returned to her
alma mater to teach a new generation of budding engineers. Jon DeVaan,
a senior vice president at Microsoft, led the teams that developed Microsoft
Excel, Microsoft Office, and other products. Jeff
Peace is the vice president and general manager of Boeing's 747
Program. John Young is retired CEO of Hewlett-Packard Company. Tim
Leatherman founded Leatherman Tool Group, Inc. and invented the
world-famous multi-tool that bears his name.
The list could go on for pages. The past accomplishments by our people are remarkable. And the promise for even greater contributions in the future is very bright. We are proud of all our people, their ideas, and the innovation they have given the world.
